Hyderabad is poised to achieve another notable recognition, following the conferment of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Haleem in 2010. This time, the city is on the verge of securing a GI tag for its lac bangles, as indicated by a recent publication from the GI Registry of Chennai.

Approximately a year ago, the application submitted by the Crescent Handicraft Artisans Welfare Association of the city was approved by the GI Registry in Chennai.

The craft of lac bangles has a rich history, dating back 500 years to the Mughal Period. The Lad Bazaar area alone employs over 15,000 individuals in this craft, attracting 500-800 visitors daily.
