Tim Davie, BBC director general, stressed the significance of trust. The police want the BBC to stop investigating while they do. The Sun, a UK tabloid, said that the broadcaster had paid a 17-year-old over £35,000 ($44,500) for obscene photos. The Protection of Children Act 1978 makes it illegal to possess or transmit obscene photos of under-18s in the UK, even when consent is 16.

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that the presenter undressed to their underwear during a video conversation. The Sun said that the accused victim’s mother saw this on her child’s phone. The mother sent The Sun a sworn declaration, and the young person’s family complained to the BBC on May 19.

The youth’s lawyer called the mother’s accusations “rubbish.” The Sun said the parents stand by their stance.
