Can Bharat Taxi End Ola Uber’s Monopoly?

Bharat Taxi app launch in India

India’s ride hailing market has largely been controlled by private platforms, but recent developments indicate that cooperative models are now entering the space. These initiatives aim to offer fair pricing and improved working conditions while challenging the dominance of established players.

One such initiative is Bharat Taxi, launched under the Ministry of Cooperation. It is being positioned as a domestic alternative that focuses on driver welfare while offering commuters predictable fares and a safer ride experience.

The Bharat Taxi app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It promotes features such as police verified drivers, transparent pricing, and no surge charges, which directly address common complaints raised by regular cab users.

Operating under the Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, the platform aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. Its cooperative structure allows drivers to retain full earnings, especially those who own their vehicles, by eliminating commission based deductions.

Early adoption figures suggest growing interest, with more than 4 lakh registered users and 40,000 to 45,000 new additions every day ahead of a nationwide expansion. Added features like metro ticket integration and extended rentals improve usability.

However, long term success will depend on consistent cab availability in high demand areas and the ability to maintain competitive pricing during peak hours. If these challenges are addressed, Bharat Taxi could emerge as a credible alternative in urban transport.
