Recently, a report by the World Culture Score Index came out, stating that India stands as the leading country when it comes to reading books, with an average Indian reading 10.4 hours per week.
However, amidst this positive news, a tweet has gone viral about a book seller who disrespected his customers, raising concerns about the treatment of readers. What exactly was the comment?
The story goes like this: ten friends were traveling on a train when they encountered an old man selling books. Intrigued, the group of friends bought a good number of books and showed further interest in the seller. When asked about how he supports his family, the man replied, “Tum log jaise chutiye roz mil jate, 2000-3000 ka kam ho jata.” (If I can find dumbasses like you every day, the work of 2000-3000 would get done.)
Mistreating customers is nothing new, but this sort of treatment shocked the tweeter. Some users thought it was a joke and criticized it for being in bad taste. Others took the side of the bookseller, while some warned against purchasing pirated books.
