When it comes to thinking outside the box, we Indians have always stepped up and offered the craziest solutions to problems. When cricket enthusiasts who are eagerly waiting for the India vs. Pakistan clash found out that almost all hotel rooms in Ahmedabad are already booked and the rates for the available ones have skyrocketed, they came up with an idea never thought of before. Cricket fans have started booking rooms in hospitals for much cheaper rates along with services like a full-body checkup.
Ahmedabad is playing host to the most awaited cricket match of the year on the 15th of October. Even though the tickets have not yet gone on sale for the match, the city is running out of hotel rooms that have twenty times higher rates than usual. A room that usually costs around ₹4000 is selling for as high as ₹1,00,000. A room in ITC’s Welcomhotel is charged at ₹72,000 for the matchday. This high surge in hotel rates is driven by cricket enthusiasts coming from all around the world for the game.
As a result of these high prices, fans started booking hospital rooms, and these hospitals also rose to the occasion by offering services like breakfast and dinner. This also raises concerns about how ethical it is and if it will come at the cost of patient care. Some hospitals said that they’re judiciously assessing these requests from NRIs and prioritizing the welfare of patients.
