A theft incident was reported in an apartment in Jubilee Hills, where a recently hired cook allegedly looted valuables from the house. The cook had joined the household barely 15 days before the incident occurred.
According to reports, the family had travelled out of station when the crime took place. The cook reportedly invited other workers, including the watchman, to a gathering at the apartment, claiming it was his birthday.
Police say the accused allegedly mixed sleeping pills into the cool drinks served to the workers. After they lost consciousness, Bhuvan, the cook, reportedly collected gold, cash, and other valuables from the house with the help of three aides.
When the police were informed, they found that valuables worth nearly Rs 20 lakh had been stolen. Authorities have begun an investigation to trace the suspects and recover the stolen property.
The incident highlights the importance of caution while hiring domestic workers. Proper identity verification and background checks can help prevent such crimes, especially when new employees are hired for household responsibilities.
Police officials generally advise residents to maintain records of domestic workers and share their details with the nearest police station. Such precautionary steps can improve safety and help authorities act quickly if needed.
