A painter from Delhi was arrested for printing fake currency notes after getting inspired by the web series Farzi, starring Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi.
The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, confessed that he watched the show on Amazon Prime Video and learned the techniques of counterfeiting from the protagonist, Sunny, who is an artist.
He bought a colour printer and started making fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations.
This incident raises questions about the impact of OTT content on the viewers, especially those who are vulnerable to crime and violence. While Farzi is a well-made thriller that showcases the talent of its actors and creators, it also depicts the dark side of the counterfeit industry and its consequences.
The show does not glorify or justify the actions of Sunny, but rather exposes the fakeness of the society and the system. However, some viewers may not be able to differentiate between fiction and reality, and may get influenced by the wrong messages.
