We are witnessing a tremendous hike in tomato prices, which has led to a sense of disbelief and frustration among the public, as tomatoes are one of the most widely used vegetables.
While we are worried about the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes, it has created many weird stories and scenarios across the country. News came from Varanasi where a vegetable vendor has recruited a few bouncers for the safety of tomatoes. There have been a few tomato thefts in his shop in the past few days, and as the price of tomatoes is increasing each day, he can’t afford to lose any of them.
Ajay Fauji, who is a Samajwadi Party worker and also runs a shop in Lanka, said in an interview that people hassle in front of his shop for tomatoes. Therefore, in order to prevent buyers from becoming aggressive, he hired these bouncers. His shop also has a few placards that says: “Please do not touch tomatoes” and “Pay first to get Tomatoes”
It seems that Ajay has some sort of obsession with tomatoes as he also cut a tomato-shaped cake on the birthday of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav.
Tomato prices have exceeded Rs. 140 per kg, and there is no sign of a price drop in the upcoming days. We will have to see how many weird scenarios this spike in tomato prices will lead to.
