A shocking incident of sexual harassment and extortion by three policemen has come to light in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. A 22-year-old woman and her fiance were sitting in a park when they were approached by three men in a police response vehicle.
The men slapped the fiance and demanded Rs 10,000 to let them go. They also touched the woman inappropriately and forced her to get physical with them. The ordeal lasted for three hours and the couple had to pay Rs 1,000 through an online wallet to the culprits.
The woman later called the police emergency number for help and filed a complaint against the three policemen. The accused have been identified as constable Rakesh Kumar, home guard Digambar and another unidentified man.
They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Rakesh Kumar has been suspended and Digambar’s department has been informed to take action against him. The third man is still at large.
This incident raises serious questions about the safety of women in public places and the role of the police in protecting them. There are some of the issues that need to be addressed urgently as this type of crime is increasing day by day.
