Since its release on May 3, Riar Saab and Abhijay Sharma’s song ‘Gaddiyan Uchiya Rakhiya’ (also known as Obsessed) has received millions of views. The hit Punjabi song has also piqued the interest of actor Vicky Kaushal, who previously tweeted a video of himself dancing to the tune. Kaushal performed this dance once more during a promotional event for his upcoming flick, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.
More than a month after the song’s debut, Twitterati created a meme out of the song’s first lyric.
The opening lyric of the song ‘Gaddiya Uchiya Rakhiya’ translates metaphorically as ‘We have high-end automobiles’, but literally as ‘Keeping the cars up’. This has spurred netizens to post real pop culture incidents depicting flying vehicles. People are uploading footage ranging from Harry Potter’s flying Ford Anglia to stills from Rohit Shetty’s bombastic action sequences in which automobiles fly.
This is not the first time that music lyrics have generated memes. In February 2020, a lyric from the song ‘Dus Bahane 2.0’ that says “I looked at you, you looked at me, aur hogayi mushkil (then it led to catastrophe)” sparked memes regarding how rapidly things may escalate in certain scenarios.
