Sonam’s Hunger Protest: Bollywood Stars Too Scared to Speak?

Sonam Wangchuk during hunger protest

Sonam Wangchuk went on an indefinite hunger strike after joining Cockroach Janta Party protests against Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

This probably happens to be his 19th day of fasting. He has been reportedly protesting against multiple causes, the recent NEET exam paper leak and other environmental issues being the latest.

While many people are coming out in his support, it is quite surprising to see the absence of Bollywood stars and their opinions on social media.

While a few of them like Sonakshi Sinha and Omi Vaidya of 3 Idiots fame have spoken out in Sonam’s support, many other big names are not on the list.

We are talking about biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn here. The three Khans, SRK, Salman, and Aamir have also been silent, for obvious reasons, as they were trolled for similar reasons earlier. They got lynched on social media just for speaking some facts.

But the question remains – why not come out in support of someone who is doing a noble cause?

Is it because the system is stopping the stars from doing so? That remains a question.

This reminds us of Paresh Rawal’s recent interview in which he said that even people like Big B go silent in some cases because they are apparently harassed by the system since 2014.

Even if that’s the case, supporting Sonam Wangchuk should not be just about political ideologies.

It should actually be based on the moral standards he is standing by and basic human sensitivity and empathy.
