Wednesday marked the ‘World No Tobacco Day’ and Sweden marks the lowest rate of smoking in all of Europe. The rate is close to 5% which marks it as a ‘smoke-free’ country.

Various anti-smoking campaigns and legal decisions lead to this achievement. Also, Sweden markets some smokeless tobacco products that help to cut the smoke off but for the longer run, the tobacco addiction stays.

Even if we look into the statistics from 2019, 6.4% of smokers in Sweden is far less than 18.5% in all of Europe. The statistics kept declining as Sweden reached 5.6% smokers last year and it is destined to go down.

The low lung cancer rate in Sweden is also living proof of the declining rate of smoking. From restricting smoking in public places to cafes, Sweden is doing a great job when it comes to preventing the numbers.

Now products like Snus are being used as an alternative to smoking which is spotted very often in the country. The companies even take credit for the decile of the smokers but it uses no alternative as it can be as addictive as the smoking alternative.

WHO even put forward a statement about the so-called ‘Less harmful Alternative’ as an act of misleading by the tobacco industry. Sweden is doing wonders when it comes to the number of smokers and hopefully, they can do as good when it comes to the tobacco consumers in the future.
