Swiggy released its 2025 report highlighting how food remained central to celebrations across India. The platform described 2025 as a year of indulgence. Orders reflected comfort eating, festive cravings, and everyday favourites across regions and cuisines.

Biryani once again topped the charts for the 10th consecutive year. A massive 93 million biryanis were ordered nationwide. This translated to 194 orders per minute or 3.25 every second. Chicken biryani led with 57.7 million orders.

Burgers ranked second with 44.2 million orders, followed by pizzas at 40.1 million. Among vegetarian options, dosa stayed on top. It recorded 26.2 million orders during the year.

Snack-time demand stayed strong across cities. Chicken burgers led with 6.3 million orders. Veg burgers followed at 4.2 million. Chicken rolls, veg pizzas, and chicken nuggets also saw steady demand.

The classic chai and samosa combination remained popular. Customers ordered 3.42 million samosas. Adrak chai followed closely with 2.9 million cups sold across India.

Dessert cravings peaked through the year. White chocolate emerged as the top choice with 6.9 million orders. Gulab jamun, kaju barfi, and besan laddoo remained favourites. Chocolate became the flavour of the year.

Dark chocolate ice creams crossed 3.3 million orders. Chocolate sundaes followed with 2.6 million. These numbers reflected strong demand for rich and indulgent desserts throughout 2025.

Global food trends also stood out. Matcha led international preferences. Mexican food recorded 16 million orders. Tibetan cuisine saw 12 million orders, while Korean food reached 4.7 million.

Hyperlocal food choices grew rapidly. Pahari cuisine recorded a nine times jump in orders. Malabari, Rajasthani, and Malvani foods also saw double the number of orders compared to previous years.

Dinner remained the most active meal period. Orders during dinner were 32 percent higher than lunch. This showed a clear preference for heavier evening meals.

Swiggy’s 99Store saw the highest demand in Bengaluru. Hyderabad and Mumbai followed closely. Indore, Vizag, and Kochi also recorded strong order volumes across categories.

Chocolate pastries, chocolate cakes, paneer pizzas, corn garlic bread, and chicken fry ranked among the most ordered items. These items dominated quick meal and dessert choices.

Breakfast trends showed idli as India’s favourite with 11 million orders. Veg dosa followed with 9.6 million orders. These items remained consistent morning staples.

Late-night cravings peaked between 12am and 2am. Chicken burgers, chicken biryani, and veg pizzas were popular. Chocolate waffles, chocolate cake, and white chocolate cakes dominated desserts.

Festivals drove sharp spikes in orders. Ganesh Chaturthi saw 2.28 lakh modaks ordered. During navaratris, customers ordered 1 lakh vrat thalis and 99,200 plates of sabudana khichdi.

Ashtami evening recorded 2.2 lakh orders. Diwali week saw 1.7 million kg of sweets, dry fruits, and desserts ordered across the country.

Some individual orders stood out in 2025. A man from Hyderabad ordered Rs 47106 worth of dry fruit cookies. A Mumbai customer placed 3196 orders, averaging nine orders a day, the highest in India.
