We have seen beer made from wheat, rye, potato, rice, and whatnot. Now, a company in San Francisco has turned an unusual idea into reality: Beer made from shower water. This news is not a hoax, but a true accomplishment.
Epic OneWater Brew is the company responsible for bringing this bizarre yet brilliant idea to life by using shower water from a 40-story apartment building in San Francisco. The water undergoes a series of treatments, including microfiltration and UV treatment, to ensure its purity before being used in the beer-making process. It is a German Kölsch-style ale- a crisp, light-bodied drink that they have created. However, as of now, it cannot be sold commercially due to government regulations prohibiting the use of recycled wastewater in food and beverages. Once the sale of this beer is permitted, it has the potential to become an efficient and affordable way of utilizing recycled wastewater.
Buildings consume 14% of potable water globally, with a significant portion of it being used up in bathing. Until now, there hasn’t been a viable way to reuse this large amount of water. Earlier a lot of people, were understandably skeptical about the drink and were hesitant to try it, but most of them felt it to be good once they tried it. Would you like to drink a beer made from shower water?
