A person died and more than six were injured at Delhi Airport when a portion of the roof collapsed at Terminal-1 due to incessant heavy rainfall.
Many cars and taxis were also damaged in this unfortunate incident. The videos of the aftermath are now out on social media.
NDRF, CISF, Delhi Police and fire service reached the location and are clearing the berbis. Meanwhile, flight operations at the airport are temporarily suspended till 2 pm.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reached the location and examined the situation. He said that the government took the incident seriously.
He remarked that the fallen canopy was on the building that was opened in 2009. He clarified that the incident didn’t occur in the building that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated.
Minister Naidu stated that taking this incident seriously, the Aviation Ministry will now examine the situation of infrastructure at all airports in the country.
After visiting the Airport, Ram Mohan Naidu later went to Safdarjung Hospital to visit people who were injured in the incident.
According to the official reports, Delhi received a rainfall of 228.1 mm in the last 24 hours. Many buildings, roads and tunnels in the city are waterlogged.
