Jaiswal’s All-Format Test: Chopra’s Clear Warning

Aakash Chopra on Jaiswal IPL form

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has urged Yashasvi Jaiswal to aim for a 700 run IPL season. Chopra believes such a performance is necessary for Jaiswal to become a regular across all three formats for India.

Chopra Questions Jaiswal’s IPL Output

Chopra feels Jaiswal’s IPL numbers do not match his true potential. He stated that the batter has consistently delivered only 400 to 450 run seasons. According to him, this output is not enough for a player of Jaiswal’s standard.

Selection Snub Triggers Discussion

Yashasvi Jaiswal has played 28 Tests, four ODIs, and 23 T20Is so far. Despite respectable performances, he was excluded from both India’s T20 World Cup squad and the T20I series against New Zealand. This prompted Chopra to share his assessment.

Clear Message on YouTube

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra stressed that a big IPL season could force selectors to take notice. He said Jaiswal needs a 700 run season to break into the team decisively. Chopra added that such dominance is expected from him.

Strong Bench Keeps Jaiswal Waiting

Chopra also highlighted India’s depth in white ball cricket. He found it surprising that a player of Jaiswal’s quality is still not a regular pick. The competition, he said, reflects the strength of India’s bench.

Format Gap Still Exists

Chopra pointed out that Jaiswal is at least part of the ODI setup. However, he remains far from selection in T20Is. He believes this situation may change only after the World Cup.

Numbers Back His Ability

In Test cricket, Jaiswal has been consistent with an average of 49.23 after 28 matches. In T20Is, he has impressed with a strike rate of 164.31 from 23 games. Despite this, he is yet to secure a fixed place in ODIs.
