Team India finally ended a 58 year wait to win their first ever Test at Edgbaston. They thrashed England by 336 runs in the 2nd Test and the series is now 1-1.
But beyond the scorecard, this match had a deeper story a story of love, pain and dedication.
Coming in as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He took 4 wickets in the first innings and then 6 in the second. His final figures: 10 wickets for 187 runs.
After the match, Akash Deep spoke to Star Sports. His words weren’t just about cricket they came straight from the heart.
“My older sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. Now she is stable. She will be very happy after all that she has gone through mentally and I dedicate this match to her. I want to see a smile on her face.”
“This is for you. Every time I bowled, only thoughts of my sister crossed my mind. I am with you. I want to see happiness on your face. We are all with you.”
England tried to fight back on Day 5 but Akash Deep had other plans. He dismissed Ollie Pope early, then Harry Brook, then Jamie Smith and finally Brydon Carse to finish the match.
Shubman Gill was declared Player of the Match for his double century in the first innings and century in the second.
But Akash Deep’s story was the emotional centre of this win. His bowling destroyed England but his words touched millions.
This was just Akash Deep’s second Test. Yet he showed maturity, fire and calm all in one performance.
More than that, he showed what it means to play not just for your country but for something deeply personal.
India Won the Match, But She Won the Moment. While India celebrated a rare win on English soil, the real victory belonged to one person Akash Deep’s sister. And through his effort, she smiled again. That was the win he was playing for.
