India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after an incident during the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
The ICC confirmed that Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 percent of his match fee. The penalty was imposed for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the final.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Arshdeep Singh attempted a throw during play, but the ball hit New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.
According to the ICC, the act falls under Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct. This rule deals with throwing the ball or any cricket equipment at or near a player in a dangerous or inappropriate way.
There was a brief reaction on the field after the moment. However, the situation did not escalate further during the match.
After the game, Arshdeep Singh clarified that the throw was not intentional. He said he immediately apologised to Daryl Mitchell for the incident.
Arshdeep Singh said he went to Mitchell and said sorry. He explained that the throw slightly changed direction and accidentally hit him.
Later, both players were seen speaking to each other and sharing a light moment after the match. The conversation reflected the friendly spirit between the players.
Arshdeep Singh also spoke about India’s mindset during the tournament. He said the squad believed in its strength throughout the competition.
He added that the team had match winners in every department. This belief helped the players stay confident during the tournament.
The left arm pacer also admitted that the feeling of winning the World Cup had not fully sunk in yet. He said the team may understand the achievement better after a few days.
Although the incident resulted in a small fine, it did not overshadow India’s historic T20 World Cup victory.
Arshdeep Singh played a key role in India’s bowling attack during the T20 WC 2026 and contributed to the team’s successful campaign.
