Several reports on social media claim that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has been approached by Rajasthan Royals management for the roles of partner, mentor, and CEO of the franchise. The reports are yet to receive official confirmation.
If these claims turn out to be true, it would indicate that RR leadership is ready to place significant trust in Gambhir. Considering the dominant performance of Team India in T20I cricket, such interest is understandable.
However, many fans and observers believe this may not be a good idea in the long run, especially from the perspective of Indian cricket. The possibility of balancing national and franchise responsibilities has become a topic of debate.
Gambhir is currently serving as the head coach of the Indian team. If he accepts roles with RR, he would need to divide his attention between national duties and franchise commitments during the IPL cycle.
Even though India does not play T20I matches during the IPL season, increased workload could eventually have an impact. Managing both responsibilities simultaneously could become challenging over time.
There is also a strong possibility that Gambhir may decline the offer himself. His tenure with the ICT is set to continue until 2027, and he could be asked by the BCCI to guide Team India into the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Until an official statement comes from RR or Gambhir addresses the rumours directly, speculation is likely to continue. Fans are now waiting for clarity regarding this development.
