The poor condition of the Dukes ball given to Team India by the ECB is not hidden from anyone.
With Captain Gill fighting tooth and nail with the umpires regarding the same, Jasprit Bumrah has now come forward with his own statement.
Bumrah took a rather safe approach as he very cautiously tried to save his match fees and avoid any penalties.
His exact words were, “I don’t really control that, obviously I don’t want to lose out on money because I work very hard & bowl a lot of overs so I don’t want to say any controversial statements and get my match fees deducted but sometimes it goes your way, sometimes we get a bad ball.”
Bumrah was bashed left, right, and centre as soon as this statement became public.
People were shocked to see the lead pacer of the team taking such a safe approach for money while his own skipper risks everything to make sure the game goes fair.
Many claimed this to be his nature, pointing out at his contribution for MI while he sits out national duty.
With India looking strong in its first innings at Lord’s, it will be interesting to see if our batters can overcome the English total to give them a fierce challenge on-ground.
