After a 30 run defeat in the Kolkata Test, India has announced a fresh squad for the Guwahati Test. The series stands at 1-0 in South Africa’s favour. India now aims to level the contest when the second Test begins.
Reddy Added After Kolkata Collapse
The key discussion point is the sudden inclusion of all rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. The team management added him ahead of the Guwahati Test after India were bowled out for 93 while chasing 124 in Kolkata.
Player Joins Squad for Guwahati
Reports say Reddy has joined the squad and will attend the optional practice session on November 18. He played the unofficial ODI series against South Africa A, scoring 37 runs and taking one wicket in the first match. He did not bat in the second ODI.
Mixed Form but Management Support
Reddy was named in the first Test squad but was released before the Kolkata match. His recent form has been average and he has not fully used the Test chances given earlier. The team management still trusts his potential.
Possible Change in Playing XI
Reports suggest Reddy could replace captain Shubman Gill in the playing eleven for the Guwahati Test. If he does not perform, the BCCI may look at other players waiting for an opportunity.
A Crucial Chance for Reddy
For now, Reddy has another chance to prove himself. India needs someone to step up after the Eden Gardens setback.
