The feared calamity is happening now. India is putting up a horrendous performance on the fifth day of the ongoing third test match against England.
After coming to bat with an overnight score of 58 runs for the loss of four wickets, India was expected to have a strong start if they are to win the game.
However, India started on the worst possible note by losing the wickets of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul who got out rather cheaply. Pant was characteristically poor with the bat. But a part of this needs to be attributed to the injury that he had suffered.
Then the horrifying dismissal of KL Rahul, who was expected to anchor the engines and take India to the safer shores. Rahul was adjudicated leg before wicket after a poor shot.
The responsibility is now on the young sensation, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and veteran Ravindra Jadeja to keep things going for India. If they can be longer and put up a fine score than India will stand a solid chance of winning the third test or else; things can go south rather quickly.
The disaster selection of Washington Sundar has backfired badly again. His wicket put India further in trouble in what has been a poor game already.
A lot more composure is expected from the young Indian team, which is undergoing a significant transition under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.
