Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has started a fresh debate over Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026. You now face questions about whether the team will even play India, even if both sides reach the final.
Government approval pending
The issue comes as the Pakistan Cricket Board waits for government approval. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss Pakistan’s stand after the ICC removed Bangladesh as a host.
Travel plans already in place
Although Naqvi said the final decision is still pending, the PCB has already planned the team’s travel to Colombo on February 2. This has almost ruled out a full boycott of the tournament, including the February 15 match against India.
Reports of boycott talks
There have been reports that Pakistan considered pulling out or skipping the India match to support Bangladesh. You also saw internal discussions around the same idea, but no firm action followed.
Latif says Pakistan reacted too late
Latif feels Pakistan missed the right moment. Speaking on the YouTube channel CaughtBehind, he said strong action should have come immediately after the ICC decision. He said every decision has a right time, and that time has already passed.
Refusal still possible
Latif said one option remains open. If the government decides Pakistan will not play India, the ICC will have to accept it. When asked about a possible final, he replied clearly, “Nahi khelenge” meaning Pakistan will not play.
Former players unhappy
Latif added Pakistan already showed support by voting for Bangladesh. He said any boycott now will not have the same impact. His comments reflect growing anger among former players over what they see as a slow and weak response.
Decision expected soon
Naqvi has said the final call on Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 will come either this Friday or next Monday. Until then, you can expect the debate around an India Pakistan clash to continue.
