India batter Rinku Singh has left the T20 World Cup 2026 camp due to a serious family emergency. His sudden departure has raised doubts over his availability for the upcoming Super 8 match.
His father, Khanchandra Singh, is in critical condition and on ventilator support at a hospital in Greater Noida. He is reportedly battling liver cancer. Rinku rushed from Chennai to Delhi on February 24 to be with his family.
The unexpected development forced him to miss India’s practice sessions ahead of the crucial clash against Zimbabwe. This has created uncertainty about his place in the playing XI for the important fixture.
There is still hope that Rinku Singh could return to Chennai by February 25 and rejoin the squad. However, the team management will take a final call based on his situation and match readiness.
If he is unavailable, Sanju Samson is being considered as the backup option. Samson is part of the squad and prepared to step into the playing XI if required.
The timing is challenging for India. After the heavy defeat against South Africa, the team must win the remaining matches against Zimbabwe and West Indies to stay in contention for a semi final spot.
Rinku Singh’s potential absence could prove costly. He is widely regarded as a dependable finisher and has delivered in pressure situations for India in recent matches.
