However, the very same style has led to him becoming the punching bag of the public. It is no hidden fact that Pant’s style of play comes with significant risks.
When he performs well, the public leaves no stone unturned in praising him all the way to the moon, calling him the most valuable test player Indian cricket has ever seen.
When he doesn’t perform, the same ‘esteemed’ public draws out knives and demands blood, calling him overrated and playing on ‘sympathy quota’.
This kind of attitude shows how low we have fallen as fans. We don’t have the ability to support our known and tested talented players if a few games don’t go their way.
We must make sure that their own talented players get all the appreciation and support they can get from the public, both in times of glory and folly.
