Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not done yet. With the Asia Cup 2025 in sight, both have already started preparing for their comeback in the ODI series against Australia in October. For them, it is not just one series but about being ready for the 2027 World Cup.
Rohit’s fitness sessions with Nayar
Rohit, still India’s ODI captain, is training hard in the gym with Abhishek Nayar. Known for helping players like Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul regain form, Nayar is now guiding Rohit to maintain peak fitness as he continues at 38.
Kohli’s practice in London
Kohli is currently in London. He was spotted training in the nets and had earlier worked with Gujarat Titans coach Naeem Amin. The two were last seen together during IPL 2025. This marks Kohli’s first serious cricket practice since then.
Age and determination
By 2027, Rohit will be 40 and Kohli 38. Age may not be on their side, but both are determined to keep going. Rohit is focused on strength and conditioning, while Kohli is sharpening his batting. They aim to prove they can still deliver at the highest level.
India’s rebuild after 2023
India fell short in the 2023 World Cup final, and selectors now face the task of preparing for 2027. The big question is whether to trust Rohit and Kohli’s experience for the Australia ODIs or give more chances to younger talents.
Seniors still pushing forward
For now, both seniors have made their intent clear. They are training hard, ignoring outside criticism, and showing their hunger to play ODIs. Whether or not selectors back them, their dedication proves they are not ready to walk away from the format yet.
