Virat Kohli’s retirement from test cricket has not just ended an era for his fans, it has shaken the whole cricketing ecosystem, leaving many searching for answers about the exact point in time where things went wrong for the India legend.
While many would like to believe that Kohli’s run in whites came to an end after the extremely poor show in the BGT, that was only partially the case.
The BCCI gave Kohli an extremely extended rope even after the BGT. While any other player would have instantly been dropped, Kohli was given the chance to regain his form in the Ranji Trophy.
It was exactly at that point in time that things took a turn for the worse, as the so-called ‘GOAT’ was dismissed by Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan during the first innings of Delhi’s game against the Railways, putting a mere total of 6 runs on the board.
This moment must have played a major part in the management coming to the decision that things were too far gone to be saved for Kohli.
With ODI being the only format he plays now, Virat will have to prove himself much more if he wants to continue justifying his one left position among the Men in Blues.
