Star Heroine Rejected Big Films Because of Painful Past?

Bhavana during Anomie promotions interview

Malayalam actress Bhavana is currently promoting her movie Anomie, which is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 30th. She has been giving interviews to YouTube channels and attending public events as part of the film’s promotions.

In one such interview, Bhavana spoke about the break she took from acting in the Malayalam industry. Her comments have gone viral on social media and sparked fresh discussion about her career decisions during that phase.

Bhavana said she suddenly felt the need to stay away from Malayalam cinema at that time. She revealed that several well-known filmmakers, including Aashiq Abu and Prithviraj, approached her with film offers, but she turned them down. She also stated that she rejected a film starring Mammootty.

She added that there was no specific reason behind rejecting those projects. Bhavana said she does not clearly know why she made those choices, describing it as a phase where she felt disconnected from Malayalam films.

During this break, she continued working in Kannada cinema. She also mentioned that she initially rejected Ntikkakkakkoru Premondarnn but later agreed after listening to the narration by director Adhil Maimoonath. That film marked her return to Malayalam cinema in 2023.

Following these remarks, social media reactions have been divided. Many users linked her break to the traumatic kidnapping incident she faced in 2017, which allegedly involved a big Malayalam superstar. According to this view, she avoided major star-driven projects to protect her mental well-being.

Fans believe her decision was driven more by emotional recovery than professional strategy, even though she did not state this directly. Meanwhile, Bhavana’s recent Malayalam films Nadikar and Hunt failed at the box office. It now remains to be seen whether Anomie will change her fortunes after its release on January 30th.
