After the critically acclaimed success of Jigarthanda DoubleX, Raghava Lawrence started shooting for the fourth installment of his successful franchise, which is Kanchana 4.
Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana horror series is one of the most successful franchises in Kollywood. All the films in the series were huge commercial successes and their collections were on par with top heroes’ movie collections.
Consequently, after the success of Jigarthanda DoubleX, Raghava Lawrence restarted the series and began shooting for the fourth installment of the franchise. However, it has been more than two years and shooting for Kanchana 4 is still not completed and sources suggest that more than 80 days of shooting are still left.
Since all the previous parts were huge successes, Raghava Lawrence is making part 4 on an even grander scale by casting popular actresses such as Pooja Hegde, Nora Fatehi, and Nayanthara in crucial roles. Subsequently, the budget of the film shot up due to these delays and Kanchana 4 is now slowly turning into a huge risk for its makers.
While many people earlier expected Kanchana 4 to hit screens before the end of this year, it now seems the film will not even release by summer.
In light of this long production delay, many trade experts suggest that Raghava Lawrence will end up in huge trouble if the film fails to meet audience expectations.
They note that the producers are investing such a massive amount in Kanchana 4 solely because of the franchise’s past success, as Raghava Lawrence himself does not have such a huge market pull.
Also, they suggest that since audiences nowadays expect something fresh, Raghava Lawrence should come up with new ideas for Kanchana 4 while retaining the familiar template of the franchise.
Hence, pointing all this out, they feel that Kanchana 4 is slowly turning into a headache for Raghava Lawrence. If he fails to live up to expectations, it might end up as a huge black mark on his career in terms of financial loss.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen when the shooting of Kanchana 4 will wrap up, whether it satisfies audience expectations and if it will emerge as a successful venture upon its release.
