Bigg Boss Tamil fame actress Varshini Venkat, also known as Vardhini, has been arrested by Chennai’s Guindy police in a cheating, assault and extortion case.
The case was filed by a 26-year-old stock trader named Tharun. According to his complaint, Varshini and her associates convinced him to invest money in a short film they claimed to be producing. When he later asked for his money back, the situation turned serious.
Tharun told police that he was assaulted on August 22 at a lodge in Guindy. He said the accused took Rs. 50,000 in cash and two mobile phones from him. He was then threatened with further harm and false criminal cases.
Under pressure, Tharun transferred Rs. 5 lakhs to the accused. Rs. 3 lakhs went to Varshini’s account, while another Rs. 2 lakh was transferred to her associate Sanjay.
The demands did not stop there. The group allegedly asked him to pay another Rs. 27 lakh and threatened him with false cases if he refused.
Based on his complaint, Guindy police registered a case against Varshini and three others. Police also verified the money transfers through bank records. An iPhone was seized during the investigation.
Varshini, a Mylapore resident, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The other accused are being tracked by the police.
The 28-year-old actress had appeared on Bigg Boss Tamil around two years ago and gained recognition through the reality show.
The case has now put the actress in serious legal trouble, with police investigating the alleged investment fraud, assault and extortion. The charges will be decided through the legal process.
