Tamil cinema fans were abuzz after a post on X went viral. It featured a clip from a striking interview with Vadivelu and director Sundar C. on Cineulagam.
The interview was meant to promote their upcoming comedy Gangers. But unexpectedly, it reignited an old feud—this time allegedly involving director Shankar.

Vadivelu and Shankar had a fallout during the troubled production of Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi, the sequel to the 2006 hit. Shankar produced the film, but it was shelved for years due to creative differences.
The delays eventually led to financial losses. A complaint was filed with the Tamil Film Producers Council. In 2023, a resolution helped clear the air, which allowed Vadivelu to make a comeback.

During the interview, Vadivelu recalled how a “big director” once didn’t allow any improvisation. Vadivelu said he was told to “just do what’s typed on the paper,” even after explaining that comedy needs emotion and spontaneity.
He also shared how he was unfairly blamed for on-set issues. This, he said, led to a 2–3-year break from films.

Fans quickly began connecting the dots. Many speculated that the director he mentioned was Shankar. Others pointed fingers at Chimbu Deven, the original film’s director, whom Vadivelu had earlier criticized as inexperienced.
Reactions have been divided. Some praised Vadivelu’s honesty, while others felt it could stir unnecessary controversy.
Still, the larger sentiment was clear—many believe Shankar is going through one of the worst phases of his career. After the back-to-back disasters of Indian 2 and Game Changer, his reputation and credibility as a visionary director has been rattled.
Now, even comedians seem unafraid to call him out publicly, adding to the perception that his once untouchable aura has faded out rapidly.
