Following the failure of Kara, Dhanush is currently starring as the lead in Om directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy. The shooting of this film is nearing its final stages and it is expected to hit the screens by November or December this year.
According to reports, following Om, Dhanush is going to act in a commercial entertainer tentatively titled D56 directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and D57, another commercial entertainer, which is set to be helmed by Siruthai Siva. Sources claim that this is the updated lineup for Dhanush, as his earlier planned projects have changed completely.
After the box office setback of Kara, many Dhanush fans and Kollywood audiences began criticizing the actor for constantly choosing genre-specific movies instead of doing mass commercial entertainers.
Consequently, it seems the actor is now focusing more on commercial entertainers, which is why he is in talks with Siruthai Siva for his 57th film, following Tamizharasan Pachamuthu’s project.
In this scenario, strong rumors suggest Dhanush is planning to do more mass commercial entertainers in the future. Reports indicate he has approached director Balaji Mohan, who previously collaborated with him on Maari and Maari 2, and asked him to develop a script based on a one-line idea given by Dhanush himself to expand the Maari franchise.
Furthermore, information suggests Dhanush is keen on extending the franchise and if everything goes well, Anirudh Ravichander might be onboarded as the music composer for Maari 3.
In response to these speculations, some social media users are suggesting that if Dhanush is desperate to deliver more commercial entertainers, he should work on fresh ideas and collaborate with different directors instead of reviving a failed franchise.
They point out that while Maari was a decent hit, Maari 2 ended up as a terrible disaster at the box office. Therefore, they feel Dhanush should not take a huge risk by starting Maari 3.
Ultimately, all these are just social media speculations and there are still no official updates on this. It remains to be seen whether Dhanush will collaborate with Balaji Mohan for Maari 3 and, if he does, how the project will take shape.
