Shankar’s Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, is one of the most anticipated movies in Kollywood. It was released yesterday in theatres and acquired lots of negative responses from both critics and audiences.
The OG Indian movie was a tremendous hit, and still now it has a cult fan base for the Senapathy character. But Indian 2 destroyed the fame of the character, and it also became troll material among netizens. Even Anirudh Ravichander can’t save the film with his background scores.
Shankar, in his 31 years of filmmaking journey, has given Tamil cinema audiences a variety of blockbuster movies such as Mudhalvan, Anniyan, Sivaji: The Boss, and Enthiran. Through his grand vision, Shankar has become one of the most iconic directors of Indian cinema. His second last movie, 2.0 with Rajinikanth, has acquired mixed responses from the audiences, but with the grand making and Rajinikanth’s performance, the movie manages to collect more than 600 crores in box office.
Before, Indian 2 Tamil cinema audiences always mentioned that Shankar slipped only in the movie 2.0, but after watching Indian 2, everyone, including critics, was mentioning that Indian 2 is the worst film in Shankar’s career. After the absence of Shankar’s go-to writer Sujatha from the movies I and 2.0, Shankar wasn’t able to satisfy a huge number of audiences with the screenplay of the movies. After Indian 2, every Tamil cinema audience repeats the same: after the death of Sujatha, Shankar’s downfall has started, and Indian 2 makes him fall deeper. Shankar badly needs a comeback. Let us wait and watch whether his next movies, Indian 3 and Game Changer, will give him the much-needed boost.
