Tourist Family, Madha Gaja Raja, Lubber Pandhu Tamil Box Office Hits

Not all box office successes require a superstar or a blockbuster opening. In 2025, three Tamil movies-Madha Gaja Raja, Tourist Family, and Lubber Pandhu-showed that powerful stories and true emotion can still triumph over the hearts of people.

Madha Gaja Raja was the largest shocker. Filmed in 2012, it had years of delay and no one thought it would work. But when it finally came out, Vishal’s mass-hero action, comedy, and sentimentality resonated with audiences. Though more than a decade old, it went on to earn approximately ₹56 crore globally, emerging as one of the year’s highest grossers.

Tourist Family began modestly, with minimal shows and no major stars. But its emotionally honest tale of a Sri Lankan Tamil family’s experience resonated with fans in no time. Word-of-mouth did the rounds rapidly, and it earned more than ₹10 crore in its first week in Tamil Nadu, beating larger films due to its honesty and humour.

Lubber Pandhu too was a slow starter. This gully cricket soap opera, featuring Harish Kalyan and Gethu Dinesh, wasn’t much hyped. But its taut writing and music charmed viewers, and it went on to earn ₹42.5 crore.
