IndiGo’s Pilot Training Revamp: AI Boosts Safety

IndiGo pilots AI-based safety training

IndiGo has launched an Evidence-Based Training (EBT) program for its pilots, marking a major shift in how the airline prepares its crew. The goal is to improve situational awareness, decision-making, and teamwork through data analytics and artificial intelligence.

How EBT Differs from Traditional Training

Unlike Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA), which focuses on standardised evaluations, EBT uses real operational data to tailor training to pilots’ actual needs. This helps address specific skill gaps instead of applying one-size-fits-all benchmarks.

Data-Driven Insights for Safer Operations

IndiGo will analyse flight and training data to identify both individual and team improvement areas. Trainers can then design focused modules, improving learning outcomes and ensuring pilots are better equipped for real-world scenarios.

Safer Skies Through Smarter Training

By grounding training in real-world evidence, IndiGo expects improved cockpit performance and greater operational safety. This data-led approach moves away from theory and centres on practical flying challenges.

Transition and Implementation Plans

The airline is gradually moving from CBTA to EBT in about a year and a half. During this phase, IndiGo will build baseline standards and integrate advanced systems across its training framework.

Preparing for Growth and Expansion

Operating over 2,300 daily flights and 400-plus aircraft, IndiGo plans to introduce wide-body jets and double its pilot force by 2030. This training revamp supports its broader growth and international expansion goals.

Global Standards and Safety Focus

IndiGo is collaborating with global aviation experts to align its training with international safety standards. The EBT rollout highlights the airline’s commitment to world-class operational safety and continuous skill development.
