After finding a 74-year-old man dead, Kansas police arrested a 14-year-old kid for first-degree murder on Friday. Cherryvale’s Labette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a gunfire complaint around 1:30 p.m. According to a Saturday press release on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page, they found Thaine Lee Anderson dead from a headshot.
The sheriff’s office believed the death was murder after the initial inquiry. The sheriff’s office then contacted the KBI at 2 p.m. local time. The KBI, Crime Scene Response Team, and Kansas Wildlife and Parks responded quickly.
The 14-year-old was arrested for first-degree murder during the inquiry. He was transported to Girard’s Southeast Kansas Regional Juvenile Center. The Labette County Attorney will prosecute. All suspects are innocent unless proven guilty. No more details are available due to the ongoing investigation.
