More than 300 Indians are stranded at the Vatry airport in France for around four days now. The passengers traveling on a chartered plane are suspected to be victims of a large-scale human trafficking organization and are being questioned by the authorities at the moment.
Currently there are four French judges communicating with the passengers to understand the situation. The suspicion has increased because as many as 10 of the passengers have applied for French asylum. The plane they were on board was headed to Nicaragua which is infamous for human trafficking.
The plane took off from the United Arab Emirates but was landed in Vatry airport for an emergency refueling after authorities received a tip about suspected trafficking. There were many childrens and 11 unaccompanied minors on the flight as well.
The Romanian airline has denied any connection with trafficking and their staff has been questioned and released. Nicaragua serves as a gateway to the United States through a series of bus travels which smugglers use to send people illegally to the US.
There has been a significant increase in the number of Indians entering the US illegally through Mexico in recent years.
