After a quarrel over dangerous jet ski driving led to a gunfight in Florida, a 7-year-old kid died, and his grandfather was injured. The Tampa Police Department said that the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time on the Courtney Campbell Causeway west of Ben T. Davis Beach.
Witnesses said that two groups got into a fight over irresponsible jet ski driving near youngsters playing in the water, according to a Wednesday police release. When members of each gang started shooting, the situation worsened. In an attempt to protect his 7-year-old grandson, the grandpa was shot in the hand, according to authorities.
Tragically, a bullet hit the boy’s skull. Deputy Chief Calvin Johnson of the Tampa Police Department said during a press conference that the grandpa pulled the youngster inside a truck after hearing the shooting. Unfortunately, a bullet entered the vehicle and struck the grandfather’s finger, killing the youngster.
St. Joseph’s Hospital pronounced the kid deceased. Anyone with information regarding the event should call Tampa police. To learn more about the tragedy, detectives are investigating.
