Highland Park, Illinois, saw a horrific Independence Day catastrophe last year. A rooftop shooter killed seven people and wounded almost 50 during a Fourth of July parade. The community planned a somber march on Tuesday in memory of this tragedy.

The holiday comes amid rising gun violence in the country. The coronavirus epidemic caused unprecedented violence. USA TODAY/Suffolk University reported that 70% of Americans think crime is “out of control” in the US.

While firearm homicides may be declining, mass shootings and mass killings are rising, alarming academics. In numerous places, gunshots on school grounds, armed robberies, carjackings, and road rage have increased. These alarming developments underscore the necessity for effective gun violence prevention and public safety measures.
