The USA has the world’s highest funded law enforcement agencies. The budget of some of these police precincts is higher than what some districts receive in underdeveloped nations. The failure of the United States at ensuring the safety of its school children is not only embarrassing but also raises many questions on the approach that the US follows to eliminate threats.
The number of school shootings in the United States is scary and makes you think how one of the richest countries is so unsafe for its own children. The state of Iowa remembers the Uvalde school shooting in 2022. The tragic incident forced the state governor to allocate $75 million for upgrading the safety of the schools.
With that much money, new technology can be purchased to ensure hi-tech safety at school. But the shocking fact is that the authorities have not even spent the major part of this money. The money, if utilized , might have prevented the two other school shootings that shocked the state.
While the safety of school children lies in a limbo, the authorities find themselves in the middle of technicalities and paperwork that has stopped the flow of money. Even though the ease of carrying gun has been mentioned as the root cause of these mass shootings, the governor has no intention to put any curbs on that and would rather try to keep children behind the safety of a tougher school.
