The Paris Olympics is turning into a nightmare and embarrassment for France as instead of being an opportunity to promote and advertise their beautiful country, it has turned into an event where they are unable to hide the basic problems that are rotting this country. River Seine is a venue for many events and it has fallen prey to its old enemy, pollution.
It caused huge embarrassment to the French government and people as a practice session for an event had to be canceled because the water was too polluted to swim in. This session is held before the main event to allow the athletes to get familiar with the water conditions.
The river Seine was a hot topic even before the Olympics as the once highly polluted river was claimed to be made clean enough for Olympic level swimming. To support this claim, Emmanuel Macron said that he would himself go and swim in the river to prove how clean it is.
This also started one of the weirdest movements online as thousands of Parisians planned to defecate in the river right before the swim.
