A disturbing aspect has emerged in the tragic case of stabbing of Indian-origin teenager Grace O’Malley Kumar and her friend Barnaby Weber in Nottingham as a police officer incharge shared the details of the victims’ stabbing incident via WhatsApp, sparking outrage and a breach of trust in the pursuit of justice.
The said incident occurred near Nottingham University on June 13, 2023, when a mentally ill man, Valdo Calocane, stabbed the victims to death.
The misconduct allegation revealed that shortly after the attack, Police Constable Matthew Gale sent details of the victims’ injuries to a WhatsApp group.
In addition, he shared a “distasteful” message with his wife and a friend, resulting in receiving a “final written warning” for his actions. Barnaby Webber’s mother Emma deemed these internal voyeurism on the victims unforgivable.
Valdo Calocane, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, received a mental health order as part of his sentence.
