Fraud Students Cut Off In Canada Visa Scandal

Canada Visa ScandalCanadian authorities are cracking down on student visa fraud, with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) revealing a significant reduction in suspected cases. Originally identifying over 2,000 instances where fraudulent documents may have been used to obtain student visas, the CBSA has narrowed down their concerns to a more manageable 300 cases.

This decisive action follows a letter sent by affected students to Canadian Public Safety Minister Marco EL Mendicino, seeking clarity on their immigration status. Aaron McCrorie, Vice-President of the CBSA’s intelligence and enforcement branch, explained that the agency’s focus shifted in 2018 after investigations into organized crime groups unveiled cases of students involved in criminality and gangs.

McCrorie highlighted that each case is treated individually, taking into account the unique circumstances of the individuals involved. Among the 300 remaining cases, a range of scenarios emerges, from genuine students to those allegedly complicit in the fraudulent scheme, as well as individuals accused of exploiting the system for entry into Canada.

To ensure a thorough and fair assessment, a joint effort between the CBSA and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been established. A taskforce of IRCC officials is working alongside the CBSA to meticulously review each case and determine whether the individuals in question are genuine students. Those proven to be authentic may receive temporary resident permits, allowing them to continue their stay in Canada.
