H-1B Dream Turns Toxic: Techie Trapped by Abusive Boss

H-1B techie workplace abuse issue

An Indian techie on course for an H-1B visa has revealed a disturbing workplace experience. The same man who helped the techie land the job and later became his manager is now reportedly abusing him every single day.

According to the Reddit user, the employee started as an intern and earned a full-time role through strong performance. The company even decided to sponsor his H-1B visa, a major step for any Indian worker in the US.

However, this is when things changed, and the manager began verbally abusing him in their local language, including insults involving his parents. The employee claimed this behavior is not linked to performance and happens openly in front of colleagues.

He also said he is the only one being targeted, while others are treated normally. The techie’s biggest fear is not the abuse itself, it’s what happens if he speaks up.

With rising scrutiny on H-1B filings and stricter policies under the current administration, employer sponsorship has become hard to find in the job market. If the manager pulls back on his work visa because of a dispute, it could crush his US dreams forever.

The general consensus remains that the techie should just survive till the visa arrives and then complain about the manager once they have legal security.

For many H-1B aspirants, the power imbalance and bearing toxic work environments is a reality. It is what they have to bear to reap long-term gains in America.
