Justin Trudeau Sikh LeaderDiplomatic relationship between India and Canada is getting more and more sour. It is believed that the meeting between the two heads of government during the G20 summit wasn’t a pleasant one. India has raised serious concerns about rising anti-India activities on Canadian soil. Now Canada has claimed an alleged direct involvement of India in the killing of the Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Hardeep Nijjar, who hailed from British Columbia was a supporter of the khalistan movement. He was killed in June after which tension escalated between Canadian Sikh leaders and the Indian government. Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada has reportedly said that there are “credible allegations of a potential link” between Indian government officials and the killing incident.

The allegation has resulted in the expulsion of the head of India’s intelligence agency from Canada. Trudeau further said that, “In no uncertain terms, any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty.”

There has been no official response from the Indian High Commission so far on the matter. However, the events that are unfolding could potentially strain the relationship between the two countries for a long time.
