In a shocking turn of events, 29-year-old Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, an Indian-origin man, has confessed to firebombing a high-profile anti-abortion office in Wisconsin on Mother’s Day last year. The Justice Department disclosed this revelation, emphasizing the gravity of the charges against him.
Roychowdhury, a former research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was apprehended at Boston’s International Airport in March. His guilt was officially acknowledged on December 1, with charges of attempting to cause damage using fire or an explosive.
The incident unfolded on May 8, 2022, when law enforcement responded to a blaze at an office building in Madison. The scene painted a disturbing picture with broken mason jars, burned lids, and a pungent accelerant. Shockingly, messages like “If abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either” and cryptic symbols adorned the building’s exterior.
Prosecutors assert that Roychowdhury’s actions aimed at “terrorizing” and “intimidating,” accusing him of a deliberate attempt to vandalize and set fire to the Wisconsin Family Action offices. The DNA evidence, collected from the crime scene and matched with samples from the suspect’s discarded food, proved crucial in linking him to the crime.
Facing a potential prison term ranging from five to twenty years, Roychowdhury’s sentencing hearing is slated for February 14, 2024.
