Amid all the political rallies and cinema debates taking place across the state today, a major administrative milestone has brought significant pride to the Andhra Pradesh police department.
On the occasion of national Passport Seva Divas, the central Ministry of External Affairs officially announced that the Andhra Pradesh Police Department has bagged the prestigious national award for outstanding performance in passport verification for the financial year 2025–26.
The state police department managed to secure the top rank across the entire country by keeping their average verification time incredibly low while maintaining strict security checks.
Following this announcement, the Union Ministry of External Affairs sent a special, high-profile invitation to AP Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta, requesting his personal presence at the official Passport Seva Divas and Officers’ Conference in New Delhi on June 19.
During this national event, Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will personally hand over the prestigious national award to the AP police chief. This recognition highlights how successfully the state department has integrated digital technology and field-level coordination to speed up a process that used to take weeks for ordinary citizens.
Historically, getting a passport police verification completed was a notorious headache for the common man, often involving long delays, multiple visits to the local police station, and bureaucratic red tape. By utilizing advanced digital processing systems and launching tracking systems at the grassroots level, the state police transformed the verification timeline into a matter of just a few days.
For an administration that is currently pitching a modern, investor-friendly image to the world under the “Swarna Andhra” banner, this national award serves as concrete proof that the state’s administrative machinery is becoming highly efficient, transparent, and completely citizen-centric.
