Beside the battle of the borders, India and China are also unwillingly engaged in a population competition. India has already surpassed China, becoming the most populous country on Earth. This trend has also extended to the United States.
According to the Census Bureau, Indian Americans have now become the largest Asian American group in the United States, displacing Chinese Americans from their previous position. However, when considering the numbers for multiracial individuals, Chinese Americans still constitute the largest Asian community.
In terms of the population consisting solely of people who are 100% Indian, the 2020 census reports a figure of 4.4 million. This number has witnessed a remarkable growth of 55% over the past decade, influenced by various factors.
One of the key factors contributing to the influx of Indians is the tech-centric economy of the USA. Indians and Chinese individuals play pivotal roles in this regard, and the H1B visa program facilitates the entry of high-skilled workers into the United States.
Since the 1990s, many top Indian minds have relocated to the USA with their families, significantly impacting the population statistics. The United States has also emerged as an attractive destination for education, with a growing number of Indian students choosing to pursue their studies there.
