The race for the White House has already started and a number of candidates are fighting to secure the Republican nomination as the Presidential candidate. One name that has gained a huge popularity in the past few months is of Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian origin entrepreneur. Vivek has managed to garner support of a section of republicans with his conservative opinions and his support for former President Donald Trump. He found himself in the talks again after he vowed to end Birthright citizenship in the USA.
Speaking at a Friday town hall event, Vivek said that he would deport all children of undocumented immigrants born in the US if he is elected President. Vivek has openly expressed his conservative ideology throughout the campaign and has been both praised and criticized for it. Even though a beneficiary of affirmative action himself, he considers it as racism and supports the State’s ban on abortion.
Ending Birthright citizenship would involve amendments in the US constitution as the 14th amendment automatically grants any person born in the US citizenship. Before him, Donald Trump had also vowed to do something similar if he is re-elected. Vivek identifies as an upper caste Hindu Nationalist and his alleged apathy is often associated with his identity.
