For anyone who’s planning to get admission in a post graduate program outside India, GRE is one of the most important exams that can guarantee you a seat. Every year hundreds of thousands of students from all over the world appear for this exam. The majority of these students used to be from the USA but India has surpassed the US in this respect as well now.
According to the latest data, in the year 2022-23, more than 113,000 Indians appeared for GRE. In the same time period, the number of American applicants was only over 97,000. India has moved past the US and China to become the biggest market for GRE.
While the US saw a decline of nearly 61 percent in the number of applications, Indian applications grew by 62 percent during the same time. GRE was first introduced in 1936 as a standardized test for admission to graduate schools.
It is also the first time in the history of the exam that a country outside the US has emerged as the biggest participant. The craze for getting a quality foreign degree is not going anywhere in India and the number suggests it might just as well increase in the coming years.
